We provide convenient hazardous waste collection services for residents and businesses in King County. We operate four fixed collection sites, mobile collection events throughout the county, and in-home collection services for seniors and residents with disabilities. We do not charge disposal fees because our services are funded through utility surcharges.
We are currently piloting an on-site collection service to make our services more equitable and accessible to King County residents. In 2018, this program collected more than 400 pounds of batteries and 306 pounds of compact fluorescent light bulbs. In 2019, we expanded our on-site bulb and battery from five properties in 2018 to a total of ten properties.
Additionally, the Hazardous Waste Management Program provides grants to 36 cities and one tribe. This financial support helps residents safely manage their hazardous materials.
